Arts and Graphics Dept.

My batch, P1/03, is at our final semester here in Malaysia and it's a tradition that we have a convo magazine to show our accomplishments (or so it should have been) throughout the 2 and a half years in Malaysia. Ginn and Mark were both voted to be our Editor and co-Editor respectively and I'm sure they'd do a good job.

Just yesterday, I was asked to give my contribution into this magazine as a member of the Arts and Graphics Dept. Sounds nice huh..?? There are three of us in this dept and I'm not so sure if I'm up to designing. Well, I've always wanted to do designing, for I myself like arts actually but whether I'm capable or not is another different story. Still I think I'm better off now than being in the team in charge for getting sponsors because I'm as good at persuading others as a chicken knowing how to fly. I'll try my best and hope I won't be disappointing anyone.

Anyways, I know I should at least do my part. It would be a big burden for both our dedicated editor and co-editor to carry this heavy load on their back.

Hash Run

Today I had to force myself to wake up at 9 in the morning; even after only 5 hours of sleep, definitely not enough for me; to get myself ready to go home. I could not stay in vista for the weekend even if I wanted to as I have promised my dad to sign up for the hash run of Shah Alam Club. The hash run is one of the activities they have in the club and it’s quite fun. In this event, the hash committee would decide on a route for the members to run and the person in charge of the route is known as ‘the heir’ of the hash run, or at least it sounds something like that, I’m not pretty sure. Anyway, the routes set usually involve jungle tracking and are usually very interesting. Sometimes the jungle tracks involve routes not often taken and are covered with overgrowths which makes the tracking difficult. It is during these runs in the jungle where I get all those scars on my feet, contributed by our friendly leeches. Those nasty critters are really great; they can smell blood a mile away. Then, to make things even more adventurous, members are suppose to follow paper trails set along the route which sometimes ends in various parts of the route. This is when members are supposed to look for further trails of paper to lead them to the end of the route.
I think other clubs have their own hash runs too. If they do, they should be about the same? Maybe?

Today, the hash run took place in Bukit Cahaya, Shah Alam. Each run is held at different places, I myself joined runs in Fraser’s Hill, Bukit Gasing, a place in Shah Alam which I have forgotten the name, and Bukit Cahaya. It was a gloomy day and the sky was not in a good ‘mood’ when we reach the place. We started the run in a rain not too heavy, but still enough to make you shiver. Today’s run was set by a frequent hash runner and therefore, the jungle route was quite tough. The whole run took about one and a half hour. Then, as usual, after the run, all members who took part will gather in the Shah Alam Club for dinner, provided by the club. They say the most important part of the hash run in more on drinking beer after the run rather than the run itself, but I doubt this is true. There are members who join the run for the adventure-cum-exercise while the others do enjoy a little drinking after the run. I myself had a glass of beer during dinner. All in all, the hash runs I had had, was really enjoyable and the dinner, … well we can’t expect much since it’s given free. Sometimes we get good food and sometimes we don’t. I think of the hash run as an activity for the family and also to meet others (even tough the group is always the same and contains only a small amount of members).

Tonight, on my way back home, in the car, I can’t help noticing how beautiful the moon is in the dark sky, full and bright. I took a few picture of it with a digital camera when I got home. The results are not so satisfactory. However, even if it’s perfect, I will still not be able to post it in this blog. Why? Cause, I still haven’t figured out how to use the ‘hello’ program to upload pictures into the site. Damn, must make it a task for myself to learn how to use that program.

Start work

Up until today, the first week of the semester was quite free and there wasn't much lectures for us. Thus, yesterday I found time to go to the climbing gym with Amy. I completed 4 5c routes but after the 4 routes, my arms got tired and even when I tried, I failed to complete any routes after that. I need to improve on my endurance. Anyway, yesterday was an enjoyable day since at least I completed some routes and got some work out in the process.

Up until today we've been having few lectures and one cal sessions, which require us to revise on two lectures using a computer program. Then today we had an overview of a subject we are having, drug and disease 3, and got to know the massive assignments we are going to have. I know at once after the overview that I cannot let myself carry out this assignment like I used to, which is doing it last minute. So that's why I'm now here in the computer lab right after lunch trying to get information on the assignment I'm required to do.

This semester IS going to be tough as one of my lecturers state it was. I think I'll have to put in more effort if I want to get a first class or second class upper at least. I made a promise to myself never to put everything last minute again. Just hope I can keep that promise...

Great!!

Learnt something new just now and I'm quite excited about it. I've learned how to put a chat box in my blog and also how to FINALLY put a picture in my blog as well. All thanks to my friend Mr. Mark and Mr. Cho (crazy fan of Malaysian Idol). Besides, after republishing my blog, I realised that the blog I said not published was there after all... the one about my first day of the semester.

Well that's all I have to write this time. Just got excited about the stuff I did to my blog and since I'm still in the computer lab, wrote this in as well. It's time for me to go now, back to my apartment across the street. Bye²

It happened again!!

Yesterday, I took about half an hour writing a blog in the computer lab of IMU and the bloody thing can't be published again. The screen just showed "publishing in progress" in what seems forever, without really publishing it. Hmmm... I'm really getting fed up. However, maybe I should start writing a blog in microsoft words before coping and pasting it on this create blog page just in case it should happen again. Don't really know whether it is the connection's fault OR the server's fault.

Anyway, lectures have started and everything is tougher in this new semester. I just hope that I can make it through. We have five subjects with thick module notes and tiny letters. Now, maybe this is the reason why mostly everyone taking this course have to wear spectacles. This would be the last semester before we would go to Scotland for our final year. Then, life will get worse... Well, I'll be looking forward to that.

First day of a new sem

Hah, finally, the new semester 5 has just started. I don't have to bare with all those boring days which I had during the holidays at home. Only during the last week of my holidays when activities started to stir up. My friends in k.l. started to have time to go out at night and IMU coursemates started to come back from their home towns. Therefore, the last week of my holidays was the most enjoyable week. Even yesterday night, the last night before studies started, some of my coursemates and I went 'yum cha' and chatted until 2 in the morning. Then when I reached home in Vista, I sat in front of the PS2 playing GTA San Andreas until 4 before going to bed.

Today, the first day of sem 5 and we had a lecture already. I guess this sem is going to be tough since quite a few of them needed to resit one of the subject we had last sem. Think I'll have to start working hard and not fooling around so often anymore. I just hope everything would be fine and I would be able to get this degree without any "unwanted" problems.

After this sem, everyone who passes will be going to Scotland to complete our final year of this degree course. This part of the course is going to cost us a big amount of money since everything is going to be in pound sterling and the course itself is going to cost about 15,205 pound sterling. Thinking of the amount of money my parents need to cough up for my course is enough to make me study harder. I hope I have the willpower to do it. Anyway we'll see how thing would turn out this semester.

Back from Ipoh

Just came back from Ipoh last Sunday. I tried posting a blog Monday night but however there was an error loading my blogspot posting page and thus, ended up posting tonight. I was in Ipoh for the last whole week. Went there with my parents as they had some chores to do there. Ipoh is some sort my fathers hometown. My ancestors from china settled there and was in the tin mining industry. When I was younger, I had always looked forward to going back there as I was the only child in my family and it is back in Ipoh where I have my cousins to play with. However, we have all grown up and everyone have their own things to be busy with. So, nowadays I go back to Ipoh to visit my relatives and to enjoy the great food they have there.

Back to last week, my family went back to Ipoh the Saturday before last and there they stayed until Tuesday. When my parents where there, I stayed with them in my aunt's place. Then when they left on Tuesday, I stayed on in my friend's place in Ipoh town. This friend of mine is actually one of my batchmates from IMU and he is known as 'ah pa', which simply means father in cantonese, by everyone who knows him well in my batch. This nickname was given due to his fatherly appearance, not that he looks old. Anyway he is actually a year younger than me. Ah pa's family is in the alcoholic beverages business and they live in a shophouse in Ipoh town. It is six stories high, with an elevator to allow it's residents to travel between floors. I stayed in this place for five nights before heading home to k.l. on Sunday morning.

Ah pa's family consists of 7 members; his parents, three elder sisters, and a younger brother. All of them were very friendly, especially his eldest sister, a very jovial lady who help runs the family business. All of his family members were in ipoh except for his second sister who works in k.l. Everyone treated me very well, almost too well that I felt pretty embarrass myself. They brought me to all kinds of places to eat and ah pa's mother cooked her best dishes mostly everyday when I was there. Ah pa later told me that his mom don't usually cook dinner. And on my last night there, his father treated me to an expensive seafood restaurant. I really hope that I didn't trouble them much when I was there.

Everyday from Wednesday, when Ah pa and I have no other plans, we would go down to the shop and sit there reading the papers and sometimes, I would chat with his elder sister and also observe what they do there in the shop. Then there are times when ah pa would bring me to the shopping complexes in Ipoh and also visit friends of ours in Ipoh. There was really nothing much to do in Ipoh as it is a small quiet town. However, I enjoyed my stay there very much. At least there I have people to chat with and company unlike here in k.l. where everyone's too busy.

Ah pa decided to leave with me to k.l. on Sunday morning as he wanted to visit the computer fair held here in PWTC. However, he has planned to go to Melaka on Monday with a friend, our Miss Melaka. I did not go with him as I just came back from Ipoh and furthermore I'm going up to Genting with my parents on Thursday. I really miss ah pa's family in Ipoh. However, I really would not want to stay on longer as they treated me too well and it's not really good to owe others too much favour, which I might not be able to pay. ;-)
